 Add2Netvouz
Water skiing is no longer subject to "old school" abuse of learning behind the boat. If you have ever tried to learn to either get up on combos, get up on a slalom ski, kneedboard, wakeboard, or even barefoot with great difficulty, then you are ready for a serious shortcut. The barefoot boom is no longer just for barefoot water skiing...it is your ticket to fun.

Barefoot water skiing began in 1947, but the biggest breakthrough began with the invention of the barefoot boom in the 1960's. Although it is difficult to pinpoint it's origin, the real innovation began in 1983 when Mike Seiple started Barefoot International which specialized in making booms. Mike Seiple's ski school's tremendous success came from using booms to teach average people to barefoot.

Everybody who had a machine shop started trying to get in on the boom making business. I am here to give you the facts and blow the whistle on companies who are making shortcuts in their boom construction. I hope you get to see this info before it gets pulled! Booms ar not all the same and I want you to know what snake oil sales pitches to avoid.

Myth number 1: The lighter the boom, the better it is because it is easier to set-up and take down.

The Truth about Myth 1: Not true. The most time tested construction a solid core boom. A boom is lighter when it is hollowed out or made from a lesser quality aluminum. Aircraft aluminum is the preferred metal. The amount of leverage put on a boom is tremendous depending on the weight and the activity of the skier during the teaching stages. The safety of the skier as well as the passengers depends on great construction.

Myth no. 2: two cables are not necessary to connect a barefoot boom to the bow. A single cable is plenty strong enough

Boom Cable Myth Truth: false. Booms are subjected to multiple violent forces from multiple directions. A single cable dramatically reduces the stability of a barefoot boom. All it takes is witnessing a cable break to realize that a single cable is unacceptable.

Myth number 3: quick release boom clamps are better because the boom height can be adjusted with greater ease.

Boom Clamp Myth: Not True. After subjecting boom clamps to continuous heavy downward forces on the end of the boom, we found out that flexible adjusting clamps fail quicker because of the inherit design and thinner materials. The difference in time it takes to adjust a solid construction bolt clamp versus a flexible clamp is about 15 seconds in favor of a flex clamp. This could be an expensive trade of of seconds for safety.

When investing in a barefoot boom, the most important factor should be safety. When you realize how many people will be using your boom to learn to water ski, wakeboard, kneeboard, wakeboard, and even barefoot, you will want to put construction quality at the top of your list. Get a boom that is guaranteed to fit, perform, and it will last forever. It will feel good to be the new authority on teaching others on your lake.
