Diabetes is a Transmittable Disease: Unlike certain illnesses that may be transmitted from spread of infection, diabetes is acquired and may develop from the person's inability to generate insulin.
Insulin Shot is a Must: Insulin shot is the primary treatment given only to Type 1 Diabetic patients. It is only the second resort for Type 2 Diabetic Patients and is given only when other treatment options for this type of diabetes failed.
No Other Parts of The Body is affected by Diabetes except blood: Diabetes treatments are necessary otherwise all parts of the body may suffer from the complications diabetes may bring. The common complications of diabetes are heart-related ailments, kidney and nerve damages and many more. Blood diseases are just some of the complications this disease may bring.
Sweet Foods Cause Diabetes to Develop: Unlike the common belief of many that sweet foods cause diabetes to develop, this is only true for those who have acquired over weight because of too much sweet intake. If this is the case, the patient is most likely to have Type2 Diabetes. The best thing any person could do to avoid diabetes is to reduce the sweet intake.
Hypertension and Atherosclerosis are caused by Insulin: Insulin may only aggravate hypertension and atherosclerosis condition but these two diseases are caused by other factors and not by insulin.
Too much fruit is okay for Diabetic Patients: While fruits are considered to be very healthy because of the nutrients and minerals it contains, some fruits may have some contents that are not too good for diabetic patients.
Pasta, Potatoes and Bread; big no for diabetics: Carbohydrate-rich foods such as pasta, potatoes and breads are not good for patients suffering from diabetes. In the contrary to this, these types of foods contain some special types of carbohydrates that are needed by diabetic patients. However, not because
Chocolates are not allowed for Diabetics: Talking about taking things moderately, chocolates are okay as long as eaten moderately with the combination of mobility and exercise.
Diabetics Must Only Eat Special Diabetic Food: A healthy diet consists of low-fat, low-sugar, low-sodium foods, all of which are appropriate for the diabetic. There are not any extra bonuses for a diabetic to eat high-priced diabetic foods. A normal healthy diet, along with exercise, works very well.
Insulin Can Make a Person Gain Weight: While it is true that insulin adds weight to a person, it may be reversed as long as healthy diet is followed.
Type 2 Diabetes Only Afflicts Adults: With the reduction in school activities such as sports and physical education, and the ever increasing number of computer and video games, the children of today are not getting the exercise that they need to stay at a healthy weight. Not to mention the fact that the average parent of today does not usually have the time to make a healthy meal for their family. So a quick stop at a fast food facility provides a meal that is high in saturated and trans-fats, carbohydrates and calories; containing very little if any nutritional value at all. This sedentary, fast food filled lifestyle is causing our children to become overweight and placing them at higher risks than ever before of developing Type 2 Diabetes.
Diabetics Are Likely to Get More Illnesses Than Others Without the Disease: Diabetics are encouraged to receive flu shots only because infections of any sort can raise blood sugar levels and that is unsafe for the diabetic patients.
The list of myths goes on and on, but you can plainly see that there are a wide variety of them. Some are silly while others are quite serious. Only by educating ourselves can these myths be put to rest once and for all.
