7 Important Texas Holdem Strategy Lessons

 Add2Netvouz
First one card, then another slides your way. The first is an Ace, the second a Nine and they're both spades. How do you play a hand like this? Are you confused? Don't worry, most players are! The player first to act raises and your hand is pretty so you call in the big blind after everyone has folded.

The first three community cards are dealt. The cards turned over in the middle are Ace of spades, Deuce of hearts and the Seven of diamonds. You flopped top pair and the pixies rejoice! The bad news is that when all the cards are dealt you lose to Ace King who had you dominated the whole way. You think you played the hand well and forget about it.

Was it your fault or the cards? I would say that in a situation like this it is most often the players own fault. He made a simple texas holdem strategy mistake. No sweat though, it is through our mistakes that we learn.

Texas Holdem strategy doesn't have to be hard. The hands that evade the TV cameras are usually the more important ones (strategically). These hands aren't shown on TV because it is too boring to watch for the average joe.

Here is My List with The 7 Texas Holdem Strategy Secrets :)

1. Play Tight - Play super tight out of position. By out of position I mean anything that isn't the button or one off the button (a.k.a the cut-off). You should play the tightest from the blinds because those positions are truly worthless. You do not have to defend your blinds in a game like No-Limit Texas Holdem. I have had many students and friends who have tightened up considerably from the blinds and started winning more with less losing days.

2. Planning - A professional texas holdem player plans ahead. That means he thinks about the possible outcomes. An extreme example is if you hold A2o. Two players limp and one good player raises. You cannot possibly call here because you will never know if you're hand is good, unless you flop two pair or better. So think ahead!

3. Poker Tilt - Become aware of your own signs of tilt. I myself get hot and almost start sweating when I become really frustrated at poker. This is a time when I have to take a break or just quit, because if I keep going I will tend to lose money. Why? Because when you tilt your judgment is clouded and you will make some really horrible texas holdem strategy mistakes! Learn to quit BEFORE you start playing bad!

4. Game Selection - If you choose games where you are the best players then you will win. And the easier games you choose the easier you will win. Pick games where you have an easy time winning and you should have no problems. I know many good players who avoid this simple texas holdem strategy tip and are too lazy to select good games. They just sit all day and play with other good players. If they're good they'll win a bit, but not even close to as much as if they selected better games.

5. Bankroll Management - Are you familiar with this texas holdem strategy tip? I recommend you have a minimum of 20 buy-ins for the stakes you're playing. I prefer over 30 myself. Read about proper poker bankroll management and apply it! If you avoid this, then you avoid success.

6. Be Open - When I was just starting out with texas holdem, I read everything I could get my hands on. Every texas holdem strategy book I found, I read. I have over 35 poker books on my shelf right now. I also spent tons of time at forums like 2+2 which is the biggest online poker forum on the planet. I met the majority of my poker friends there whom I to this day discuss poker hands with. After that I started taking coaching and still do, and it has helped my game tremendously. Try everything you can and find what works for you.

7. Pleasure - You should always feel immense pleasure while playing poker. Or almost always for those of you who are professional poker players. Sometimes it just isn't as fun as you want it to be, but you have to get those hands in because it is how you make your living. I myself try to keep it as pleasurable as possible, it's no fun playing a game you hate, right? :)
