Some are more dangerous than others and there has been data collected to support this. The following are the top ten most dangerous intersections in Ontario with some staggering statistics to go with some of them.
The following are considered to be some of the most dangerous intersections in Ontario:
1. Mississauga's Dundas Street East and Dixie Road intersection is considered to be the most dangerous intersection in Ontario.
2. Mississauga's Derry Road East and Goreway Drive intersection is the second most dangerous intersection in Ontario.
3. Brampton's Queen Street East and Rutherford Road intersection is considered to be the third most dangerous intersection in Ontario.
This is taking into consideration how many crashes occurred in the area and the injuries that were involved and the severity of those crashes.
Ottawa
Many complain of the intersections in Ottawa. One of the worst is Prince of Wales and Hunt Club. This intersection has a lot of congestion as do many of the intersections that exist along these roadways. Others that citizens claim are the worst intersections in Ottawa:
Riverside and Bank being one of the worst intersections is attributed to poor design because if drivers need to go south, they must encounter a roundabout that puts the driver in the left turn lane of Riverside North.
Besserer and Waller is voted as one of the worst intersections because pedestrians only have two sides of the intersection to cross. The southwest corner does not have pedestrian crossing and for those needing to cross, they must make their way across freely without pedestrian crossing.
Hunt Club and Aviation Parkway is voted as one of the worst intersections because of the intense congestion in the mornings and the evenings. The entire stretch of road is not three lanes, which due to merging causes congestion and rear ending accidents.
Laurier and Elgin is another intersection that is not pedestrian friendly and many claim the light is not long enough, which results in cars following too closely.
Bay and Queen has an afternoon rush hour that is very dangerous and has vehicles coming from three directions. Busses run over the sidewalk while pedestrians are waiting to cross.
Carling and Kirkwood this intersection has on and off ramps and turning lanes, which makes it an obstacle for drivers and pedestrians.
These are intersections that the residents themselves claim to be the worst intersections that they have to deal with on a day-to-day basis in which they have either been directly involved in an accident, have been a pedestrian trying to cross the intersection, or they have seen an accident occur at these intersections.
Between the experiences and observations of citizens, and the statistics, Ontario most certainly has a high number of dangerous intersections that have encountered many accidents. Those listed in this article only list some of the dangerous intersections that exist and require a certain amount of change to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians alike.
