Lingerie is commonly associated with visually appealing undergarments, although the origin of the word typically means any undergarment for male or females. It's interesting to note all the different types of lingerie that are existent in today's society. But what constitutes the term lingerie, and what should one expect from investing in such clothing?

It's interesting to note that not all lingerie is considered to be provocative. Some lingerie is instead used to benefit the wearer- most commonly women. This is most evident in lingerie types such as the corset or girdle- either can help mold or shape a female's body to their liking. This was often used in older times when dieting and diet pills were not as popular.

Other types of lingerie are present in everyday life for some women. Stockings or pantyhose are used in the corporate world, where it is common for women to where such things to give a professional look. Although this isn't always the case, it helps gives women a tan look that helps cover up white legs, which helps convey a sense of professionalism.

Bloomers or what is otherwise called spankies are usually used by cheerleaders to cover what cheerleading uniforms fail to. Cheerleading uniforms often do a poor job in protecting the body from view when acts such as handstands or cartwheels are performed. In this case, bloomers are commonly used to help a cheerleader maintain dignity while still being able to perform complex maneuvers.

For a woman who enjoys comfort when sleeping at night, lingerie is available in the form of nightgowns and shirts. These types of lingerie are usually designed and built for comfort. Although they can be laced and created for style, this usually detracts from the comfort and instead seeks to increase the visual appeal.

Of course, there are also other types of lingerie that are indeed considered promiscuous. These types of lingerie can range from different types of tight fitting garments to even the aforementioned types of lingerie. Risque lingerie commonly uses frilly lace, silk, and other fine types of clothing to give elegant designs. Such types of lingerie focus primarily on visual attraction, not necessarily comfort or style.

As a last note, it's also important to know that lingerie isn't just a female's world. Males are also open to the thought of wearing lingerie, although it is less accepted among most societies. Males do not always shop for lingerie, per se, but certain types of male underwear and garments are still considered lingerie in definition. Because of the less demand, lingerie companies usually have more options for women than they do men.

Everything that lingerie has to offer is great- but the prices aren't always so appealing. In that case lingerie isn't usually a large part of a woman's wardrobe. Although, many sources of cheap lingerie are available that can indeed make comfort and style part of any woman's long term wardrobe. The hard part is simply finding such sources- most commonly they will be online or at local lingerie shops that are offering sales. Either way, obtaining lingerie is only half the fun- the rest is wearing the comfortable and stylish wear.
