Why is Hispanic Parental Involvement a Serious Issue? لماذا هو من أصل اسباني مشاركة الآباء مسألة خطيرة؟

One of the great challenges in the American educational system is the wide performance gap that exists between White and Asian students on one side and other minority students on the other. احد التحديات الكبرى في النظام التعليمي الاميركي هو الاداء على نطاق الفجوه التي توجد بين الطلاب البيض والاسيويه من جهة والطلاب من الاقليات الاخرى من جهة اخرى. As a Hispanic educational professional, I know that educators are paying close attention to why Hispanics often lag behind their White and Asian peers. باعتبارها من اصل اسباني للتربية الفنية ، وانا اعرف ان المعلمين هم ايلاء اهتمام وثيق لماذا الهسبان في كثير من الاحيان متخلفه على الابيض والاسيويه الاقران.

It is a concern because they are not only the largest minority but also, the fastest growing immigration group in the US وهو قلق لانها ليست فقط اكبر اقلية ولكن ايضا ، والأسرع نموا فريق الهجره في الولايات المتحدة

As an educational consultant, I study the statistics. كما مستشار تربوي ، الاول دراسة الاحصاءات. Analysts project that by year 2030, Hispanic students will comprise one-fourth of the total public school student population. محللون ان المشروع بحلول عام 2030 ، من أصل اسباني الطلاب سيضم ربع اجمالى عدد الطلاب فى المدارس العامة. Yet, statistics show that Hispanic youth are the most under-educated minority segment of the US population and have the highest drop-out rate. ومع ذلك ، اظهرت الاحصاءات ان هسباني الشباب هم الأكثر تعليما وكيل الاقليات جزء من السكان والولايات المتحدة لديها أعلى معدل الانقطاع عن الدراسه. School Reform Efforts to Solve the Achievement Gap Take Many Forms. مدرسة الاصلاح الراميه الى حل الانجاز الفجوه تتخذ اشكالا عديدة.

Education is the social equalizer in the American society. التعليم هو التعادل الاجتماعية في المجتمع الاميركي. It creates social stability. انها تخلق الاستقرار الاجتماعي. It is in the nation's best interest to close this achievement gap. أنها في مصلحة الأمة لاغلاق الفجوه في هذا الانجاز. For some educational practitioners academic achievement among minority students can be improved with a curriculum designed to appeal to students. بعض الممارسين للتربية والانجاز الاكاديمي بين طلاب الاقليات يمكن تحسينه مع منهج دراسي تهدف الى نداء الى الطلاب.

Others believe that the answer is found in new forms of student assessments and greater teacher accountability for their students' performance on these tests. ويعتقد آخرون ان الجواب موجود في اشكال جديدة من الطلاب وتقييمات اكبر المعلمين لطلابهم المساءلة 'على اداء هذه الاختبارات. Meanwhile, other educational leaders support the idea that low achievers could improve with a year-round educational program and teachers motivated to improve their instruction by a higher pay. وفي الوقت نفسه ، واخرى للتربية وقادة نؤيد الفكره القاءله بأن انخفاض الناجحون يمكن ان تحسن مع مدار السنة البرنامج التعليمي والمعلمين بدافع تحسين اوضاعهم تعليمات اعلى الاجور.

While all these methods have merit, I believe that parental involvement is the strongest predictor of student academic success. وفي حين ان جميع هذه الأساليب الجداره ، واعتقد ان مشاركة الآباء هو الاقوى المتنبيء للنجاح الطالب الاكاديميه. Parental involvement correlates with improvement occurs regardless of the economic, racial, or cultural background. مشاركة الآباء ارتباط مع التحسن يحدث بغض النظر الاقتصادية ، وعنصرية ، او الخلفية الثقافيه.

Students Identify Lack of Parental Involvement as the Leading Cause for Lack of Achievement. تحديد الطلاب عدم مشاركة الآباء باعتبارها السبب الرئيسي لنقص الانجاز.

I have engaged in educational research for different school districts across the nation. لقد تشارك في بحوث التربويه لمختلف المناطق التعليميه في جميع انحاء الامة. I interviewed several hundred Hispanic high school students. انا مقابلات مع عدة مئات من طلاب المدارس الثانويه من اصل اسباني. I repeatedly asked them: "Why are Hispanic student scores on the state tests lower than their Asian and White peers?"; "Why do many Hispanic students drop out of school?"; and, "Why you don't see more Hispanic students enrolled in advanced, honors or Advanced Placement courses?" انا طلبت منهم مرارا وتكرارا : "لماذا عشرات الطلبة من اصل اسباني على الدولة التجارب الاسيويه أقل من نظرائهم البيض والنبلاء؟" ؛ "لماذا كثير من الطلاب من اصل اسباني الانقطاع عن الدراسه؟" ؛ و، "لماذا لا نرى مزيدا من اصل اسباني الطلاب المسجلين في المتقدم ، بدرجه امتياز او التنسيب دورات متقدمة؟ "

In spite of their differences in the level of language acquisition or acculturation, immigration status, immigration experience, or the country of origin, they all agree. على الرغم من خلافاتها في مستوى اكتساب اللغة او التبادل الثقافي ، كمهاجرين ، وتجربة الهجره ، أو بلد المنشأ ، وانهم جميعا متفقون على ذلك. Lack of parental involvement is the number one reason why so many Hispanic students do not do well in school. الافتقار الى مشاركة الآباء هو السبب رقم واحد من اصل أسباني لماذا هذا العدد الكبير من الطلاب لا نفعل جيدا في المدرسة.

Why Are Their Parents Uninvolved? لماذا آبائهم غير المعنيين؟

"I believe that Hispanic students' scores are lower than their peers because we don't have a lot of support from our parents as White people do.", a high school student said to me during an interview. "اعتقد ان من اصل اسباني الطلاب عشرات اقل من أقرانهم لانه ليس لدينا الكثير من الدعم من آبائنا بيضاء كما يفعل الناس." ، وهو طالب في المدرسة الثانويه وقال لى خلال مقابلة. The students believe that lack of English and understanding of the American culture does not allow parents to support their children's education adequately. الطلاب يعتقدون ان الافتقار الى فهم اللغة الانكليزيه والثقافة الاميركية لا تسمح لدعم الآباء تعليم أبنائهم على نحو كاف.

"It is not that our parents are not interested in our education", one student said. "ومن لا ان الدينا ليست مهتمة في منطقتنا التعليم" ، وقال احد الطلاب. "But language barriers and ignorance in general are directly affecting the improvement of the Latino students in general." "ولكن الحواجز اللغويه والجهل في العام هي التي تؤثر تأثيرا مباشرا في تحسين اتيني من الطلاب في العام."

Students believe, and I agree, that it is very difficult for parents to monitor their children's high school career in the United States when he only completed his elementary school back in his native country. الطلاب يعتقدون ، وانا أوافق ، ان من الصعب جدا للآباء لمراقبة اولادهم في المدرسة الثانويه المهنيه في الولايات المتحدة وقال انه عندما تكتمل الا صاحب مدرسة ابتداءيه في بلده الام الى الوراء البلد.

"My parents expect so much from me and continuously tell me that I need to do well in school, yet they are completely clueless as to what my school experience is like because they didn't get as far as I did", one student said. "والدي نتوقع الكثير من لي باستمرار وتقول لي انني بحاجة الى فعل الخير في المدرسة ، ومع ذلك فهي تماما كما clueless لي واجباتي المدرسية الى ما يشبه التجربه لانها لم تحصل على بقدر ما فعلت" ، وقال احد الطلاب .

Their academic expectation for their children might be lower because of this. توقع زملاءهم الاكاديميين لاطفالهم قد يكون اقل بسبب هذا. The situation at home complicates even more because Hispanic parents put so many hours at work. الحاله في المنزل حتى أكثر تعقيدا لأن الآباء من اصل اسباني وضعت في كثير من ساعات العمل. They may leave their children unsupervised at home. انها قد تترك اطفالهم فى المنزل دون اشراف.

Many teen students hold part time jobs to help support the family and take care of the younger siblings. عقد العديد من الطلاب في سن المراهقه وظائف بدوام جزئي للمساعدة في اعاله الاسرة واتخاذ رعايه الاخوة والاخوات الصغار. This leaves little time or energy to do read, do homework or study for a test. وهذا يترك وقتا قليلا او الطاقة الى فعل القراءة ، ان يقوما بواجباتهما او دراسة للاختبار.

How Can Hispanic Parental Involvement be Improved? كيف يمكن هسباني مشاركة الآباء تحسين؟

Hispanic Parents need home strategies that would allow them to create a home environment that is conducive to learning and support their children's education. هسباني الآباء الحاجة الى المنزل الاستراتيجيات التي من شأنها ان تسمح لهم بانشاء البيت بيئة مواتية لدعم التعلم وتعليم ابنائهم.

Parents need to learn how to lead their children's academic lives. الآباء بحاجة الى ان نتعلم كيف تؤدى لاولادهم حياة الاكاديميه. They need to be empowered with skills to do so in order to be competent in navigating the American Educational System. وهم بحاجة الى تمكينهم بالمهارات اللازمة لذلك من أجل ان تكون لديهم صلاحيه الابحار في النظام التعليمي الاميركي.

Three Foundational Competencies that Hispanic Parents Need. ثلاثة التاسيسيه الكفاءات التي تحتاج الآباء من اصل اسباني.

Competency # 1: Parents need to make reading a life style. الكفاءه # 1 : الآباء الحاجة الى جعل القراءة نمط حياة. Parents need to have a deep understanding of how important is for their children to reach reading proficiency. الآباء بحاجة الى فهم عميق لكيفية المهم هو التوصل الى اطفالهم اتقان القراءة. Doctors call high blood pressure the silent killer because people can have it, don't know that they have it and are at risk of dying because of it. دعوة الاطباء وارتفاع ضغط الدم القاتل الصامت لأن الناس يمكن ان تترتب عليه ، لا يعرفون ان لديهم ويتهددهم خطر الموت بسبب عليه.

In the same way I believe that the lack of reading proficiency or reading below grade level it is also a killer, a killer of academic dreams and aspirations. في نفس الطريق واعتقد ان عدم اتقان القراءة او القراءة ادناه رتبة وهو ايضا قاتل ، قاتل من الاكاديميه الاحلام والتطلعات. Students reading below grade level don't understand the predicament that they are in. الطلاب القراءة ادناه الرتبه لا نفهم المأزق انهم بوصات

Without good reading skills other subject like science, mathematics or social studies are more difficult. دون القراءة الجيدة المهارات الاخرى مثل موضوع العلوم ، والرياضيات او العلوم الاجتماعية هي اكثر صعوبة. Understanding what is being read is required in almost every subject they take in school. فهم ما يجري نصها هو مطلوب في كل موضوع تقريبا انها تأخذ في المدرسة.

Poor readers feel out of place because they cannot perform at the level of their peers. الفقراء يشعرون القراء خارج المكان لانهم لا يستطيعون أداء على مستوى اقرانهم. Their confidence is damaged. ثقتهم معطل. Even if they manage to graduate high school, they don't have the knowledge and skills to succeed at a college level class. حتى لو كانت ادارة التخرج في المدرسة الثانويه ، لأنهم لا يملكون المعرفه والمهارات اللازمة للنجاح في كلية مستوى الطبقة.

Parents need home strategies to help their children become competent. الآباء الحاجة الى استراتيجيات البيت لمساعدة اطفالها تصبح المختصة. Students become competent readers when reading becomes a life style and that is encouraged at home. طلاب المختصة القراء عندما تصبح القراءة يصبح نمط حياة وان يشجع في المنزل.

Competency # 2: Parents need to establish a productive connection with the school and teachers. الكفاءه # 2 : الآباء والامهات على ضرورة اقامة مثمره فيما يتعلق المدرسة والمعلمين. The American educational system is like a tricycle. النظام التعليمي الاميركي هو مثل الدراجه الثلاثيه. The same way that it cannot function without three wheels, schools cannot function properly without the dedication of the student, the teacher and the parent. بنفس الطريقة التى يتم بها لا يمكن ان تعمل بدون ثلاث عجلات ، والمدارس لا يمكن ان تؤدي عملها على الوجه المطلوب دون تفاني الطالب ، المعلم والوالد.

The front wheel is the student, the wheel that provides direction to the process. الجبهة العجله هو الطالب ، والعجله التي توفر التوجيه لهذه العملية. The two back wheels are the teachers and the parents. الاثنين العجلات هي عودة المدرسين والاباء. Both are equally important. كلاهما على نفس القدر من الاهميه.

Effort to educate a child without parental involvement is like riding a tricycle that is missing a wheel. الجهود لتوعية الطفل دون مشاركة الآباء اشبه بركوب الدراجه الثلاثيه التي هي في عداد المفقودين أ العجله. Parents need to understand their role. الآباء الحاجة الى فهم دورهم. This will require positive and productive connections. وهذا سيتطلب اتصالات ايجابية ومثمره.

Competency # 3: Parents need to make homework part of the daily routine and not a battle field. الكفاءه # 3 : الآباء الحاجة الى جعل العمل المنزلي جزءا من الروتين اليومي وليس ميدان المعركه. They need to understand the importance of homework in their children's academic careers. انهم بحاجة الى فهم اهمية الواجبات المنزلية في اولادهم الاكاديميه الوظيفيه.

Parents need home strategies to enforce homework quality and completion in a consistent manner. الآباء الحاجة الى الصفحه الرئيسية لاستراتيجيات انفاذ الواجبات المنزلية وجوده في اتمام بطريقة متسقه. Homework is to academic success what practice is to sports. الواجب المنزلي هو نجاح الاكاديميه ما هو الى ممارسة الرياضة. Do you think any team can win without regular and consistent practice? هل تعتقد ان اي فريق يمكن ان يربح دون منتظمة ومتسقه من الناحية العملية؟

How Can Schools Help Parents Develop These Competencies? كيف يمكن للمدرسة ان تساعد الوالدين في تطوير هذه الكفاءات؟

These competencies can be taught. هذه الكفاءات يمكن تدريسها. Hispanic parents can be taught the process for navigating the American educational system. هسباني الآباء يمكن تدريسها في عملية الابحار لنظام التعليم الاميركي. Schools need to train Hispanic parents what effective parental involvement means. المدارس والحاجة الى تدريب الاباء من اصل اسباني ما يعني مشاركة فعالة الابويه. They need to develop programs to train them. انهم بحاجة الى تطوير برامج لتدريب لهم.

Many Hispanic parents will do what is needed if they learn how. كثير من الآباء من اصل اسباني سنفعل ما اذا كانت هناك حاجة الى تعلم كيفية. It is good social responsibility to teach them and it helps schools meet No Child Left Behind directives. انه لامر طيب المسؤولية الاجتماعية لتعليمهم وانها تساعد المدارس تلبية اي طفل ترك وراء التوجيهات.
